Now or Later?

Doing things without thinking about their consequences seems to be the trend nowadays. We tend to be impulsive and easily give in to temptations to get an immediate reward without thinking about our action’s long-term effect in our lives.

There are times that we let our emotions overpower our intelligence and cloud our judgment. We always want to experience an instant satisfaction that we choose to not listen to our sense of reason anymore.

But if we are aware of what’s happening around us, we know that there will come a time when we need to face the consequences of the choices that we made in the past and the question is, are we ready?

Because of our innate nature, we are easily get carried away by our emotions most of the time and we choose to decide based on our current feelings. We will not listen until life teaches us its lessons the hard way.

The thing here is, we should not be ruled by our emotions when making a decision. This will only lead us to nowhere or to something that we will regret later. In every step that we are taking, we need to also prepare ourselves to see the things that are waiting for us at the end of the road. If we are lucky, yes, that situation might turn out right for us but what if it turned out to be not our lucky day?

Because of these life's temptations, we will always feel the urge to let ourselves in situations that will give us an instant gratification. But we need to fight our hardest to resist them. The pain that we need to endure to overcome these urges is nothing compared to the suffering that we will experience in the future. Bad choices can ruin our lives in a second. We can’t expect this life to reward us with good things if we keep on doing the wrong things. What we sow is what we reap. What comes around goes around. We need to be careful with our choices.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons the hard way sometimes. But we need to instill in our minds that everytime we are about to do something, we need to always choose what is right. Choose to delay our short-term pleasures in order to enjoy great rewards in the future. Be patient, learn the art of self-control, it will all be worth it in the end.

“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable pre-requisite for success.”-Maxwell Maltz
